Our history and affiliations

Founded in 1997 by Ms. Camara Ahissata Sjögren, Femmes Actuelles Libérales has become a key player in the promotion of women's rights.

Member of OJLA (Organization of African Liberal Youth) since 2003.

Affiliated with IFLRY (International Federation of Liberal Youth) since 2008.

Affiliated with INLW (International Network of Liberal Women)

Biographie

Ahissata Camara Sjögren is a prominent Ivorian political activist and leader dedicated to advancing democracy and women's rights in Côte d'Ivoire. Currently, she serves as the Head of the Abobo Office at the Agence Emploi Jeunes (The Ivorian Youth Employment Agency), where she plays a pivotal role in promoting youth employment initiatives.

With a strong background in political activism, Ahissata founded Femme Actuelles Libérales (FAL), an Organization focused on empowering women and advocating for their political participation. Under her leadership, FAL has raised awareness about women's rights and actively participated in drafting Côte d'Ivoire's second constitution. Her commitment to gender equality is further demonstrated through her involvement with the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY, where she served as Vice-President, fostering collaboration among liberal youth organizations across Africa to promote democracy and human rights.

Ahissata's political journey began in the early 1994s when she became involved with the Rassemblement des Républicains (RDR) party, contributing to its establishment and growth. She has held various leadership roles within the party, including serving as National Secretary responsible for Gender and member of Social Solidarity. Her efforts have been instrumental in organizing youth congresses and promoting social solidarity initiatives.

In addition to her political roles, Ahissata has engaged in numerous non-profit activities, organizing panels and training sessions aimed at empowering young women leaders. Her educational background includes a Master's degree course in Diplomacy and International Relations, equipping her with the skills necessary to navigate complex political landscapes.

Fluent in French, English and Malinke, Ahissata Camara Sjögren continues to be a vital force in advocating for democratic values and women's empowerment in Côte d'Ivoire.
